I never bothered to update my iPhone 3G to iOS4. I thought it would slow it down. Yesterday, I picked up my iPhone 4 from the Apple Store. iOS4 is great on the iPhone 4. But my iPhone 3G still hasn't been upgraded and I don't think I'll ever update it to iOS4. I'm afraid it will slow it down.

    My reply in red.

Really two different things the OP needs. One he knows about, and one he doesn't.

First, a request for some clarification. You have a DSL modem that has a single Ethernet port on the back, right? Right! You stated "no wireless". I'm assuming that that's due to some kind of restriction - i.e. workplace or parents or whoever said "no wireless". Is this correct? Yes, it's a restriction. Or do you simply mean that your DSL modem doesn't have WiFi?

Anyway, if there is some "no wireless" restriction, then the wireless router one person suggested is out.

Does the DSL modem have NAT built in? Do you know what NAT is? (Do a little Wikipedia research...) NAT allows several computers to share a single Internet connection. It changes the packets going out to the Internet so that they all come from the same address. It also provides *some* firewall protection, in that incoming packets are only accepted if they match-up with an outgoing packet. By default, a NAT router won't accept any incoming connections. You can set it up to accept incoming connections, in that case you need to designate which computer to send them to for a given port.
This is of no concern to you unless you are running a server, etc. Not running a server. It's a AT&T DSL modem.

If your DSL modem does not have NAT, and also doesn't have some kind of firewall, then you are currently *very* vulnerable to attack. Ack! That's all I need to hear!

It would be useful to post your DSL modem model. Westell-black one! AT&T always asks, "the black or the gray," when I have to call.

If it does have NAT, then I'm a bit surprised that they didn't build in a small Ethernet switch and give you multiple Ethernet ports. If it does have NAT, then you should only need to add an Ethernet switch. Get a gigabit switch, which will make then connection BETWEEN your Macs very fast. (For copying files back and forth, etc.) For the Internet connection, gigabit is a non-issue, since Internet speeds are (typically) way below that of even a 100M switch.

If it doesn't have NAT, then you need a router or firewall. Think "wifi router without the wifi". It's a bit of a specialty product, because they are usually built into a WiFi device, cable modem, or DSL modem.

You can also look for a compatible DSL modem that has a built-in router and switch. So... I should look for another modem with a built-in router and switch? I don't intend to exchange files between the macs since one for one type of business and the other is for all my graphics.

You will have to check your provider's terms of service to see if it's OK to connect more than one computer. Generally, though, the provider won't be able to detect that you are using NAT, so won't know in any case.
Oiyvay! More waiting on hold! Maybe the best thing to do is connect and disconnect from the modem with whichever mac I happen to be using at the time?

It seems there are never easy answers for my questions.

Not entirely sure on this, but I think you can set the cross fade feature in iTunes to eliminate the gap and then (and here's where I am not sure) those settings are synced to the iPod (maybe?).

I also don't believe you can use SAS drives, as the bays still use standard SATA connectors.
The 2009 model does mention the use of SAS but the 2010 model only mentions SATA. It might be that since the 2010 model there is no SAS support anymore but I can't find much information about it.

But one company that does a decent job of it is Oracle.
If by that you mean pissing off everybody than yes, Oracle is very good at that. If you mean decent jobs on software...that is highly debatable (OpenOffice.org, Linux, Solaris, OpenSolaris, btrfs, zfs, etc.).

The 4.3.3 update and Redsn0w JB went without a hitch. Very smooth and fast. As previously mentioned, if you have used Tiny Umbrella to save your SHSH, then it will automatically put a redirect in your Hosts file. You must remove this redirect or else you will get the "ineligible" message when trying to update. Previous post does explain this.

I am on ATT so I don't preserve my baseband. I can't help with this. I never seemed to have a battery life problem before, so I also can't say if this version is better.

    Hi all,
I have a late 2007 24" Al iMac with BT and AirPort. I just ordered a Kindle Wi-Fi only from Amazon. I don't have (or want) a wireless modem.
Anyone know if I will be able to access the web by running the Kindle wefi to the iMac BT? I think both use the 802.11b/g/n standard.
    Thanks for any info.

Well, after trying several other things like resetting PRAM/NVRAM, SMC reset, switching off/on Extreme, it looks like I found a solution.

I decided to bite the bullet and did a complete reset of my Airport Extreme and configured my network again from scratch. Wireless wake on lan is working great now.

No, the BBC story said that he was hit in the head by either the passenger or the door of the overhead compartment.

I don't care about the swearing over the intercom or even taking a beer, it's him thinking that he had the right to use the emergency slide to get out of this situation! If BA's cabin crews demands are based on the fact they are there for the safety of their passengers, what the hell is he there for?! He put the safety of passengers in danger, possibly whatever ground crew in the area and probably caused delays. Why didn't he just walk away from this man, go sob in a toilet or the galley? Yes the passenger was probably obnoxious, but doing that is completely out of line and I think he deserves to at least lose his job over this.

He was arrested. Probably won't do time but there will be a fine and in doing this, he essentially quit his job.

    Hey everyone,

Can someone with more security expierance tell me more about the (What appears to be a Trojan) virus running thru Facebook? I see several users that have a status update called "Dad walks in on daughter" that takes you to a page prompting you to solve a mathmatecial equasion for legitimecy purposes then spreads itself to your wall.

Anyone know any more? How could this comprmise our phone's data or compromise end user data?

    Thanks,

Reminds me of the "Show me the G5!" over the Lightwave avatar you a long, long, long time ago

    that was so long ago....

but I did this really fast in Flash, the other was in Lightwave - that was a lot nicer:D

Sad thing is it took a while before we actually saw the G5....

Colors are awesome, Really noisy though.. I'm not a professional photographer but *I think* if you lowered your ISO and increased your Aperture that would help fix it?

I'm probably wrong so don't think I'm acting as a know it all, I'm just suggesting what I think might help.

Otherwise, Great angle and really cool shot anyway!

It was shot at f/1.4. Don't have the coin to open up any bigger than that.

Heat wise the sticking with the G3 chip makes sense, I would love to see an iBook with a G3 900mhz and a 32meg ATI card. The t-books are to fragile, my Mac tech/sales guy has had to replace hinges, keyboards etc on those ;\

Oh well, only time will tell ;]
